[E] As a mom of four, sometimes I enjoy one child more than another. I know they feel the same about me. Age, stage, hormones and hang ups can affect all of us to the point that we are just hard to be with.
I have wondered often if God feels this way about me. Are there times when my prayers are so demanding and my desires so wrong maybe he just wants a break from me? When my plate is so full at home there is no room for activities at church is God more pleased with someone else? If I prayed more would he love me more? Scripture tells me no.
In 1 Samuel 30:24 it says, “The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike.” David spoke those words to his men as they divided the spoils of war and wanted to give more to some than others depending on the job they did. It was based on their role, not their relationship to the army. I believe God uses those words today to tell me that all of his children are equal in his eyes. My birth order doesn’t matter and neither does my behavior. I am beloved to him. It’s not what I deserve, it’s who I am, his child.
1 John 3:1 says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” And that is what we are! You are his if you have asked to be. It happens when you go before him in prayer and agree with what he says about the sin that separates you from him, tell him you are sorry and accept the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross to restore. Then you choose to follow him and forget what others say you deserve or don’t resting in who he says you are, beloved. Lavish means more than you can carry, overflowing. When you allow God to lavish his love upon you, it overflows into all areas of your life and you begin to look and act more and more like Jesus.
Are you a child of God?
